Contreras Cartel

The Contreras Cartel was a Miami drug cartel that was led by notorious Mexican drug lord Nacho Contreras from 1960 to 1984. The cartel's uniform colour was mainly blue. They had a wide range of drugs, integrating heroin, cocaine, nicotine and pot into their specialities. In 1984, the gang ended when Contreras was brutally eaten by a shark in the Caymans and the last of his businesses were taken over, although some members survived as they could be spotted around the Industrial Zone even after Nacho's death.

History[]

Ignacio Nacho Contreras was a Mexican immigrant to Miami in the 1950's, and founded his own cartel there. He made a profit through the heroin, cocaine, and marijuana distribution, and became one of the richest men in Miami. Nacho was nicknamed "El Gordo" and "Chazzer" because of his appearance and greed. He became rival with Frank Lopez, whose cartel had dominance over all of Miami as of 1981, and attended the Babylon Club with other drug kingpins, such as Gaspar Gomez, Luis Echevierra, Miguel Echevierra, Alfonso Diaz, Edgar Diaz, and Tony Montana. In 1983, following the shootout at the Montana Mansion and thinking Montana was dead, Contreras took over Downtown, while the Diaz Brothers took over Little Havana and Gaspar took over North Beach and South Beach. Nacho strengthened his empire via gambling and with slave trade with the Cargo Ship Casino, a ship that transported Cuban and Mexican slaves to Miami. Contreras was doing well until three months after the shootout, Tony came out from hiding from his safehouse at the redneck community, and he took Little Havana from the Diaz Brothers, meaning Nacho would be next. Contreras was indeed the next target and Montana and his enforcers cleared out Nacho's gang nests, taking over a large percentage of Downtown, including the Marina Storehouse. After coming to the Islands and entering an alliance with the local Sandman, Contreras was killed when Montana boarded his cargo ship casino and shot him in the Islands, as Contreras jumped into the ocean and was eaten by a shark after being shot by a sniper.

His empire did not end, however, until Montana stormed the cargoship on a helicopter and killed Jonas Dunk, the captain of the ship that worked for Nacho and defused all of the bombs, plus gunned down all of Nacho's enforcers on board and helicopters. He opened the containers and freed the slaves, who took over the ship and headed to Miami, free. Montana finished off Nacho's gang by killing Hervé Colosis in Industrial Zone and exterminating the last of gang nests in Downtown.

Despite the supposed destruction of the gang, some of the members survived and continue to hang out at Miami's Industrial Zone, although with a lot less power than they had before.

Marcos, Victor Montoya and Joe Madge sometimes appear as members of the cartel, mostly during the Downtown turf front missions. It is quite possible they were hired guns due to the fact Montana has been killing many Contreras cartel members recently as the game progressed.
