Cocaine is a crystalline tropane alkaloid that is obtained from the leaves of the coca plant. It is a very addictive drug and is used frequently by Tony Montana, who also sells the drug to make a profit. During the 1980's cocaine was an easily accesible drug used by people of all socio-economic classes and was primarily grown in South America, packaged and cut down and smuggled by Central American or carribean people, and then consumed by Americans. A kilogram of cocaine costs $1,000-$2,000 in South America, $10,000-$12,000 in Mexico and them anywhere from $15,000-$45,000 depending on where you are in the continental United States, most areas are selling for $100 a gram. As you can see this led for exuberant profits for the Montana Cartel and other contemporary cartels/dealers.

Tony & Coke[]

Cocaine is the bread and butter of the Montana Cartel in the movie and the game. Tony and his wife Elvira are frequent users of the drug and Tony's excessive usage of the harmful stimulant will ultimately lead to his downfall in the movie. He killed his best friend Manny with whom he had served jail time with in Cuba, served in the Cuban army, and came to America and made a name for himself in the bustling 1980s south Florida drug-trade. Cocaine destroyed Tony and Elvira's already toxic marriage. Cocaine was also responsible for Tony's paranoia and bombastic violent and rash outburts throughout the movie.

Mention in 'The Rules'[]

Rule number 2 in the cocaine business; Don't get high on your own supply. This is said in the movie, and means that a dealer shouldn't use his/her own stash for personal use.
