"Maximum damage at long range, if you can keep it steady"
―Description.

The AK-47, officially known as the Avtomat Kalashnikova, is a gas-operated assault rifle that is chambered for the 7.62×39mm cartridge. Developed in the Soviet Union by Russian small-arms designer Mikhail Kalashnikov, it is the originating firearm of the Kalashnikov (or "AK") family of rifles. After more than seven decades since its creation, the AK-47 model and its variants remain one of the most popular and widely used firearms in the world. Design work on the AK-47 began in 1945. It was presented for official military trials in 1947, and, in 1948, the fixed-stock version was introduced into active service for selected units of the Soviet Army. In early 1949, the AK was officially accepted by the Soviet Armed Forces and used by the majority of the member states of the Warsaw Pact. The model and its variants owe their global popularity to their reliability under harsh conditions, low production cost (compared to contemporary weapons), availability in virtually every geographic region, and ease of use. The AK has been manufactured in many countries and has seen service with armed forces as well as irregular forces and insurgencies throughout the world. As of 2004, "of the estimated 500 million firearms worldwide, approximately 100 million belong to the Kalashnikov family, three-quarters of which are AK-47s". The model is the basis for the development of many other types of individual, crew-served and specialized firearms.

The AK-47 appears in Scarface: The World Is Yours and can be fitted with dual "jungle style" attached magazines (although there appears to be nothing holding them together, such as tape) and an under-barrel Knight's Armament Masterkey door breaching shotgun variant of the Remington 870. Tony's driver, the Chauffeur, also carries this rifle. Tony uses an AK-47 during the final battle with Sosa. Bizarrely, the gun's receiver appears to have been made out of the M16.

It is used by several enemies after the Downtown turf is unlocked, but is used much earlier, first during the combat tutorial, and by enemies during the mansion shootout. It is the third-best assault rifle in the game (with and without mods) despite having high recoil. The weapon can be purchased from an arms dealer for $700, and the ammo for $150 each clip. Tony's Driver carries this rifle, along with a MAC-10. Tony takes one during the final battle in Sosa's mansion, and uses it to kill Sheffield, Gaspar and finally, Sosa himself, unloading it on him, finishing the bolivian drug lord once and for all.

Upgrades:

  • Clip capacity from 40 to 80: $60,000
  • Shotgun attachment: $150,000

Trivia[]

  • The AK-47 incorrectly has an M16-like ejection port.
